Kadampa Buddhism is a Mahayana Buddhist School founded by the great Indian Buddhist Master Atisha (AD 982-1054). ‘Ka’ refers to Buddha’s teachings and ‘dam’ refers to Atisha’s special Lamrim instructions or ‘the stages of the path to enlightenment’. Followers of Atisha were known as Old Kadampa’s and followers of Je Tsongkhapa New Kadampa’s. Kadampa’s are practitioners who take Buddha’s teachings as personal advice and put them into practice in their daily lives by following Atisha’s special Lamrim instructions. Through the kindness, compassion, and unceasing efforts of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, Kadampa Buddhism has now found it’s way into many countries around the world. Venerable Geshe Kelsang has worked tirelessly to promote Kadam Dharma throughout the world by writing profound texts, giving extensive teachings, and setting a supremely pure example of a Kadampa Buddhist practitioner. |
